Alexandru Stratulat (Sourceless), the Romanian who is revolutionizing the Internet: “It’s an industrial revolution of the Web. There is no other choice”

Sourceless is the name of the future of the Internet. Concretely, it is a hybrid Blockchain system: public and private, which allows each user to expose only the data that he really wants to make public.

Another name to remember is Alexandru Stratulat – the Romanian who is writing a new page in internet history. The Constantinian is the one who created the programming language of Sourceless. An Internet based on Blockchain technology is what we call Web 3.0. “It’s an industrial revolution of the Web. There is no other option, it is much safer”says Alexandru Stratulat in an exclusive interview for ȘtiriDiaspora.

What is Sourceless, what is a Blockchain, what does Sourceless bring in addition to other similar technologies and why everyone will adopt this new type of web, we invite you to discover in the following.

1. For more than three decades we have been using the classic www – World Wide Web. After the Internet became more interactive, it was called Web 2.0. Now everything has reached another level and we can talk about the new type of web – Web 3.0. What does World Wide Blockchain really mean and what does it bring?

I think we have to describe things a bit. If we talk about the first version of the web, it’s very simple: it was a web that could only be “read”. You could only read the information, not intervene to write, edit… Web. 2.0 has become interactive. In other words, it could be read + written. It doesn’t matter the information or what we call it. And web 3.0 means read, write + own.

Whereas with web 2.0 you can only “rent” an address. A person can never own this domain. Even big companies like Google don’t have an address, they just rent from w3c, ICANN, etc. A little story can be taken from here. The seven people who control the www and the Internet, that is to say the physical connections to the Internet, come from a story worthy of Harry Potter. There are seven keys through which I can turn off the Internet. There are rules, for example two of the holders of these keys are not even allowed to fly together in the same plane.

2. What exactly is this BlockChain? Is this technology accessible to people less familiar with technology?

Going back to Web 3.0, I can now own a lot of digital information, using blockchains.

Although many people are against it, there is no other option than blockchain. From web 1.0 we have moved to web 2.0… Has anyone asked us if we want it? No, it was a natural transition, it’s a technological evolution. If cars are getting cleaner or more efficient, does anyone ask you as a person if you want them? Not. You arrive in time to adopt the evolution.

It’s happening: it’s an industrial revolution of the Web. There is no other option. We’re not just talking about owning it, but it’s much safer.

3. How does the Sourceless Blockchain differ from a traditional blockchain? What does it add?

We now outperform the world’s largest security companies in the global digital security space. Every user will have, on the phone, a web variant, at least in Sourceless we focused on those, that’s one of the main points – we have a much better and more secure digital safe, to all respects, same as today’s banking system. Blockchain helps us evolve from what we have now. It refers to a possession of information.

I may have information, maybe an image – although I leave it somewhere – we mean a possession of information. And here we are talking about NFT – Non-Fungible Token, a non-fungible token i.e. a single unit of data from a computer ledger called blockchain. A lot of people say, “Nonsense! Some images have been sold for millions of dollars!”. Fully agree. But we are talking about a simple economy and a democracy. It’s a tool. You pay simply because you want to own this uniqueness.

But if we’re talking, and that’s at least what Sourceless is trying to accomplish, is to take that amount of digital information, for example, our ID card. He is publicly anonymous. But if we want to make it available to the authorities or a company, then only those to whom I give the right and only they can see this information. Because I am the guardian. Nobody can intervene and sell the data to third parties.

Do you know the cost of our digital identity, our preferences, what we are looking for on the Internet? In the world there is an average of 50 to 70 dollars… However, we come up with the “packaging” of digital information. What does the NFT do? Robe: I mean, you know I’m here, but you don’t know who I am.

Alexandru Stratulat: “In an ideal web, as we have designed it, our identity can no longer be stolen. I have this information and no one else”

4. I understand that the risk of exposure to malware, viruses or compromised data is virtually non-existent. Is the platform accessible from any country/continent?

What’s really going on. In the blockchain, we have the str.Xpersona identity. We thought that all we needed to build was to rely on a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) identity from the start. That is to say a decentralized organization that is autonomous, independent of any form of central control. Bitcoin is the first clean DAO for example. We have a model so to speak, we have rules and data. In addition, any changes that will be made, any user who has str.xpersona or str.business will be able to genuinely and democratically vote on any changes that may occur. For example, we currently do not accept online betting or pornography. At some point we will vote on whether or not to allow these domains. This DAO is like a data ledger, like a database, except it’s encrypted from the start.

Imagine a huge building with hundreds of apartments. Each apartment belongs to someone, existing, with an identity of course, but publicly anonymous – by a street. We want everyone here to build an identity. In the ecosystem, I am validated as an identity, I can no longer hold another identity. Because it is already seen in the system that I exist somewhere. This way sites can no longer be cloned for example. I can no longer superimpose the identity of bank x on my identity for example, because the system sees me. I’m str.alex, I can’t be str.bancax. Such attacks should no longer exist. It’s been 20 years and scams like this still exist and work.

In Sourceless, the blockchain no longer allows this. We give a unique identity, a node in the blockchain. Str.alex has his identity, he has an identity document on the back (invoice, card, any other data). The whole concept is called proof of existence (POE). The existence of a double address is no longer technologically authorized. Because the blockchain sees: Wait, isn’t that you? You don’t have these keys: you can’t pretend to be anything else.

“One of Sourceless’ promises is: money sent = money received”

5. We have a very important community of Romanians in the diaspora. Could Sourceless benefit them?

This definition of ownership translates easily: without intermediaries. For example, user wants to send an amount of money to user b. str.a sends the sum of money to str.b, without any other intermediaries, other commissions, resources, etc. There remains a node in the network which writes a contract: on the date of…, str.aa sends the sum of money to str.bo, a transaction which is seen by str.x, which validates it. That’s it. Str.x only checks if the address is valid, if the amount of money exists and then just validates it and that’s it. It “costs” one MB of data, that’s all. It is not necessary, as with bitcoin for example, to consume a lot of energy. We have 0 charges and extremely low data usage.

We have around 6 million Romanians working in the diaspora. People who constantly send money home. In 2021, globally, including Revolut, there was an average of 5.5% costs in commissions alone. Huge. We are talking, in 2021, of 48 billion dollars just in commissions.

We are working on issuing our own cards under our logo in a few months. Thus, someone who works in Alaska for example and who has this card and who has a wife, a child, a stay-at-home mother, can send home exactly the amount of money he wants, without losing anything “in road”, through commissions.

One of our promises is: money sent = money received. This possibility can only be real if you use cryptocurrency.

“We provide a platform that anyone can come and rely on, for free. We’re actually coming to fix the flaws in the www”

6. And yet, the technology we are talking about is that of the future, on the way to expansion. Have you received offers from abroad to take this project or sell it to other countries? How did you choose to stay in Romania?

I received. By all accounts… I don’t want to leave! It is also a personal pride. We come from all over the country here. We have the estimate of some American investors…at the beginning of the development of the technology, we personally received from the Americans a grant and credits of $500,000 to go there and develop the technology there. I disagreed. It’s a personal ambition, it’s also a matter of ego as a computer scientist, but it’s also a personal thing beyond money.

We are talking about another web and functional material that we can give in the future. I really believe in it. Whatever happens, everything we do comes at a huge cost: an open, tax-free blockchain that remains open. We step in and actually provide a platform that everyone can come on and build on. We have no competition. It might be the www. But no, we don’t see it that way. We are in fact correcting the flaws of the www. We’re talking extreme data security at no cost.
