Fernando Santos (68), Portugal coach, has announced the squad for the World Championship in Qatar. Portugal are in Group H alongside Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.
The squad of the 2016 European champion includes 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 9 midfielders and 6 forwards. The most notable absence is that of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, who is sidelined through injury.
“We have a team capable of winning the trophy, this group can do it. The players are hungry for success and will give everything to make Portugal world champions. The list is based on the qualities and potential of the players, which each of them can bring to the system,” explained coach Fernando Santos at a press conference.

After the squad announcement, star Cristiano Ronaldo reacted: “Once again we are ready to live up to the name of Portugal! There are 26 names on Mr. Fernando Santos’ list, but we’re all in! Come on, Portugal”.

Benfica goalkeeper Antonio Silva, only 19, is among those called up. There is no match for the first Portuguese national team!
