The drug Tamoxifen, used in the treatment of breast cancer, can be found in pharmacies from today, after a crisis of several months, reports the Ministry of Health.

Chronic patients who cannot find the drugs needed for their treatment have a telephone number where they can report their shortage.

The number is 031.08.08.090, and this service was launched by the Association of Chronic Patients of Romania, which reported yesterday, once again, the bureaucratic problems of the health system.

One of them is the lack of therapeutic protocols for new treatments already approved by the government.

One month after the inclusion of 21 new drugs on the compensatory list, they are not reaching patients due to a lack of therapeutic protocols necessary for their prescription.

Moreover, in oncological pathology, medical specialists were not invited to develop the protocols – said the president of the Alliance of Chronic Patients of Romania, Cezar Irimia.

Cezar Irimia: “These delays, these procrastination only make us disappear many more patients with real chances of survival.”

Patient representatives are not ruling out a criminal charge against the ministry and say the system’s bureaucracy limits their access to innovative treatments.

In addition, they specify that since March, the National Medicines Agency no longer displays any decision concerning the evaluation of new medicines for which such requests have been submitted to the agency.
